Summer Sun

Emma and I are back from our whirlwind adventure in California. It was a great family reunion with some fun outings and a little bit of drama.

Let's go in chronological order. We arrived late on Saturday night and stayed with some old friends of ours. Sunday was full of visiting with them, rides in Ben's new 67' Mustang (do I even have to mention that I'm a bit jealous?) and a nice trip to the beach.

Emma saw the ocean for the first time and loved having me hold her above the waves as they came in so she could squeal with delight. Next it was time for some sand play and sunbathing. Loved it, loved it.

That evening we settled in with Morgan's family for the reunion and it was great. There was good company and good food in a beautiful setting. What more could you ask for?

On Tuesday we went to Sea World and it was a blast! Emma loved seeing the whales and seals and used her big words to express herself. Mainly lots of "Wow!" It would be great to be able to visit there again in smaller time chunks because Emma got so worn out we only saw about 1/4 of the park.

Of course, we had to make a morning excursion to the local yarn store and the most awesome quilting store I've ever seen. I was good and didn't go overboard though I did bring home some souvenir yarn and fabric. The yarn is Misti Cotton (83% Pima Cotton, 17% Silk) in this lovely sage/sea green color and I loooooove the hand and drape of it. I started Matador while I was there, but more on knitting later. The fabric is a bundle of 5" charm squares of, get this, sock monkeys. The sock monkeys wear hats, bounce on pogo sticks, dance around, ride scooters and just generally be monkeys. How stinkin' cool is that?!?! I plan to make Emma a really cute little quilt out of them.

Thursday night Emma had a really nasty fever (104 degrees) for the second night in a row and I totally panicked and we went to the ER to find out poor baby has an ear infection. She's recovering nicely, thank you.

The trek home began Saturday and we finally arrived at Home Sweet Home on Sunday afternoon. *phew* I love to travel but man, it feels good to be home. :)
